Can the Gaming System Wii Help Women with Gestational Diabetes

The gaming system Wii is well regarded and respected as not only a game system used for race car driving, playing golf, tennis, baseball, fishing and a large assortment of other activity and not so active games it also has a fitness center of sorts.

Wii Fit

The question researchers are proposing is can the Wii help woman with gestational diabetes manage their diabetes with the Wii sports and Fit Plus. Exercise is extremely important for woman and even more important for woman with gestational diabetes. However, due to some of the underlying health concerns of women with gestational diabetes many doctors do not feel that an hour or aerobics or an hour at gym is ideal.

Non-Strenuous Games

The Wii provides sports games that are non-strenuous and have a much lower risk of harming the fetus that if a woman where to go out and play tennis on the court.

Wii Fit Plus

The Wii Fit Plus allows the woman to exercise in a safer manner. When a woman with gestational diabetes is able to exercise it can often help control her blood sugar levels and of course manage her weight gain, which, can play an important role in her health and health of the unborn baby.

Wii Study

St. Michael's Hospital is conducting a study. The study will be overseen at "Our new ambulatory center for women strives to treat women as a whole, offering the most appropriate care for their individual situation and incorporating the most recent advances in health care practice and technology," said Dr. Guylaine Lefebvre, chief of obstetrics and gynecology.”

If this Wii idea catches on and is of course, successful hopefully, we will see clinics all over the country/world who offer this unique way of exercising for women with gestational diabetes.
