Prandin, Starlix and other Meglitinides

..also known as Repaglinide, Nateglinide or Mitiglinide

Meglitinides such as Prandin and Starlix, are oral drugs used to treat Type 2 diabetes when an improved diet and exercise regime have failed to improve high blood sugar.

Prandin and Starlix work by stimulating your pancreas to produce more insulin in a similar way to Amaryl and the sulfonylurea medications.

These drugs are quick working and the effects are of short duration. They are designed to be taken immediately before each meal and attempt to mimic the normal effects of insulin after eating. They are particularly suitable for patients who do not maintain a regular meal schedule. They are also useful for patients with potential kidney problems.

Prandin or Starlix are often prescribed in combination with metformin or other diabetic medications.

The side effects of Prandin or Starlix and the Meglitinides may include:

Prandin and Starlix may interact with other drugs, both prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Please consult with your Doctor before commencing any other drug treatment.
