Mozzarella Sticks

Serves 12

Ingredients

  • 1 (12-ounce) package 2% reduced-fat mozzarella string cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 8 Tbsp panko (Japanese) bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium prepared marinara sauce, warmed (optional)

Preparation

  1. Position a rack in the upper third of the oven and preheat the oven to 350 F. Line a baking sheet with foil and spray it with cooking spray.
  2. Remove the cheese sticks from their packaging, then set them aside.
  3. Whisk the egg in a small bowl until it is foamy.
  4. In a small nonstick skillet over medium heat, mix the Italian seasoning and the bread crumbs for about 5 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from heat.
  5. Dip one cheese stick into the egg mixture, then coat it with the bread crumbs. Place the coated cheese stick on the baking sheet, then repeat with the remaining cheese sticks.
  6. Lightly spray the coated cheese sticks with the cooking spray. Bake for about 5 minutes.
  7. Serve the cheese sticks with the marinara sauce for dipping (optional).
