Apple Fudge Squares Recipe

Serves 16

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 oz unsweetened baking chocolate
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup applesauce
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8" square pan on bottom.
  2. Sift flour, baking powder, soda and salt together. Set aside.
  3. In double boiler, melt butter and chocolate together over medium heat.
  4. Remove from heat and add sugar and applesauce. Beat in eggs one at a time. Blend in vanilla and dry ingredients; stir in pecans.
  5. Pour into prepared pan. Spread evenly. Bake 35-40 minutes, until done as desired. Let cool.
  6. Cut into squares or bars.
