Spicy Garlic Tofu

tofu.jpg

Serves 8

Ingredients

  • 1 (14-18 ounce) package soft tofu (not silken)
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup chopped scallions
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds, toasted and crushed
  • 3 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp crushed red-pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp sugar

Preparation

  1. Rinse the tofu carefully, then place it in a medium saucepan and cover it with cold water. Bring the water to a simmer over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan to keep the tofu warm.
  2. Combine the minced garlic with the pinch of salt in a small bowl. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well.
  3. Carefully remove the tofu from the saucepan using a large spatula and set it on some paper towels to drain. Gently pat it dry, then transfer it to a small plate. Spoon some of the sauce over the tofu. Serve warm with remaining sauce on the side.
