Hi Clive, The difference
Hi Clive,
The difference between type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes is as follows.
Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes usually begins in childhood but it can start at any age. The body is not able to produce the hormone insulin, which is secreted from the pancreas. The insulin is used to provide the cells in the body with energy and nutrients from the food that people eat. When the body does not produce the hormone insulin, a person is diagnosed as having type 1 diabetes.
Type 2 Diabetes
Type 2 diabetes is usually diagnosed in adulthood but can also be diagnosed in children. What happens with type 2 diabetes is the body does produce the hormone insulin but not enough of it and the body does not use it properly (distributing it to the cells in the body.)
To sum up the difference between type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetics do not produce an insulin at all. Type 2 diabetics only produce a minimal amount, which is not enough to sustain the body.
