The 12th annual Victory Over Diabetes hosted on Saturday, August 7th in Atlanta, Georgia featured Eli Lilly and Company's Fearless African-Americans Connected and Empowered (F.A.C.E.) Diabetes initiative and campaign spokesperson, R&B sensation Angie Stone.

The free event was focused on educational workshops to help diabetics and specifically African American diabetics who have a much higher diabetes risk than other nationalities learn to control their diabetes through different diets and lifestyle changes.

Also in attendance were the creators and nutrition consultants of the Hebni group who created a food pyramid just for African American diabetics called the “Soul Food Pyramid.”

Cooking demonstrations were performed and the people were given recipes and cooking tips to help them make delicious tasting food so they do not have to sacrifice the taste of their food to keep their diabetes in control.

Overall this years Victory Over Diabetes raised not only awareness but helped to educate those who wanted to learn how to take better control of their diabetes and not let the disease control their lives.
