Children with type 1 diabetes are nearly ten percent more likely to get a cold like viruses called enterviruses than children who do not have type 1 diabetes.

Enteroviruses

Enteroviruses are similar to colds and the flu the virus’s display the same symptoms including aches and pains or rashes. Enteroviruses can also lead to meningitis (is an inflammation of the meninges, the membranes that surround the brain.) Most often viral meningitis can be treated however with diabetes it can be a rough road to recovery (as with many other conditions when combined with diabetes.) Bacterial meningitis can also be cured but compared to the viral form it is considered to be a very bad form of meningitis and often leads to death in anyone who gets it diabetes or not.

The Study & Results

The study had four thousand four hundred and forty eight participants. The study included diabetic, prediabetes and non-diabetes. The results of the study determined that their was a very strong link between diabetes and enterviruses they were not able to determine the mechanism.
