Knowing the Signs of Type 1 Diabetes is Crucial

Diabetes-logo.jpg

The majority of people do not have any reason to be concerned with the symptoms of type 1 diabetes. However, there are people such as ones with parents or grandparents who have diabetes who should know the signs.

Knowing the signs could save your life or your child’s. Diabetes is not one of the things pediatricians look for during physical exams unless of course, the parents ask them too. Dr. Schmeltz says that if you know the symptoms you can prevent things like diabetic ketoacidosis or DKA. Which is potentially life threatening.

Symptoms

Dr. Schmeltz listed these symptoms as a tall tail sign. Frequent urination, excessive thirst, lower than normal energy, tiredness and weight loss, increased appetite, sudden vision changes. “Children with type 1 diabetes may also be restless, apathetic, and have trouble functioning at school.”

If your child shows any of these symptoms, you should have them checked out by their doctor and ask them to test for diabetes.
