International Diabetes Federation Announces New Position On Surgery Treatment Of Type 2 Diabetes

The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) will hold a press briefing to announce their first position statement on interventional therapies for Type 2 diabetes on March 28, 2011 at 12:45pm at the Hilton New York.

Their Statement

“The IDF will urge the international community to consider bariatric surgery earlier in the treatment of eligible patients to help stem the serious complications that can result from diabetes. Dr. Herbert Pardes, president and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, will lead the press briefing at the Hilton NY.”

Guest Speakers

Professor Paul Zimmet, Co-chair of the IDF Task Force on Epidemiology and Prevention; Director Emeritus, Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute, Melbourne. Dr. Francesco Rubino, Chief of GI Metabolic Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell; Director of the 2nd World Congress on Interventional Therapies for Type 2 Diabetes. Sir George Alberti, Co-chair of the IDF Task Force on Epidemiology and Prevention; Senior Research Investigator, Imperial College, London. Professor John B. Dixon, Head of Obesity Research Unit, Department of General Practice, Monash University, Melbourne. Dr. Herbert Pardes, President and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and Dr. Antonio M. Gotto Jr. , Dean of Weill Cornell Medical College.
