Disease management programs can be more than beneficial to someone suffering from diabetes it can give them a sense of accomplishment and strength in their diabetes battle.

What is a Disease Management Program

A disease management program can include several things but the most commonly the program includes educating the diabetic about diabetes, dietary education which may even include cooking classes. The program also includes self monitoring techniques that the diabetic can learn and telemedicine.

What a Study Found about Management Programs

"We found that the ability of disease managers to start or modify medical treatment was an effective feature of disease-management programs.” More research is needed, however, to know the long-term impact of disease-management programs and whether other groups besides those with nonstabilized diabetes would benefit from disease management.” Only time will tell if the disease management programs are truly beneficial in the long run for diabetics but for the time being they seem to be working for the individuals who really want the help.
