Children Born to Mothers who had Gestational Diabetes at a Higher Risk for Obesity
Children born to moms who had gestational diabetes are at a higher risk of becoming obese as children and later in life. Said a scientist in Sydney. The higher the mothers glucoses level were during pregnancy the more obese the child could be.
In Australia as many as ten percent of pregnant women develop gestational diabetes. Scientists say the reports should indicate how important it is to take care of your health before, during and after pregnancy. The suggest maintaining a healthy weight for the sake of future generations.
The above conclusion was derived at from a “mouse model” the researchers and scientists used lab mice to come to their conclusions about gestational diabetes and obesity.
"Higher maternal blood sugars correlated with greater weight and body fat in the offspring as well as changes in expression of certain brain neuropeptides which control energy balance and body weight."
