Registered Dietitians Role in Diabetes Care

Registered dietitian’s play a much lager role in a diabetics care than most people realize. With out the nutrition therapy a registered dietitian provides people with diabetes they would be at a loss as to what to eat and how much.

Diabetes Management

A registered dietitian also plays a large role in how a person’s diabetes is managed. Without the proper foods/amounts, the diabetic could not manage their diabetes, their glucose levels would be all over the place.

Nutrition Therapy

Registered Dietitians can encourage lifestyle changes and select appropriate interventions based on key recommendations that include consistency in day-to-day carbohydrate intake, adjusting insulin doses to match carbohydrate intake, substitution of sucrose-containing foods, usual protein intake, cardio protective nutrition interventions, weight management strategies, regular physical activity, and use of self-monitored blood glucose data. Nutrition therapy is something ever diabetic especially newly diagnosed ones should have. Not only for your health but your quality of life.
