Victoza - One Shot a Day Diabetes Medication
There are very few options available for the once a day insulin injection. Victoza is intended for adults with type 2 diabetes. Diabetics who take Victoza have had their blood sugar level under control for a good amount of time, which is determined by the doctor.
Victoza must be taken along with daily exercise and a healthy diabetic diet. The injection is not a substitute or an excuse to cut back on your exercise routine or have the occasional cupcake. The benefits of only having one injection a day is a great step forward in diabetes research especially for diabetics who despise the daily insulin injections and finger sticks to check their blood sugar levels.
Victoza has been approved by the FDA and is available on the market. Although, some doctors are reluctant to prescribe it. This medication does have a long list of side effects most of which are minor such as nausea, vomiting, and one occasion an allergic reaction. However, in the laboratory studies done on mice and rats it did cause cancer in some of them. There is no scientific research or data to prove whether it will have the same effects on humans or not at this point in time. As human studies continue scientists will be better able to determine if the more serious side effects are also a potential threat to humans.
