Too Much TV A Factor in Diabetes?
Recent research has shown that there may be a correlation between too much television viewing and diabetes. Scientists have now issued a warning to sedentary individuals about the increased risk of heart problems and diabetes in couch potatoes.
Researchers in the United States found that people who spend just an extra couple of hours watching television per day have a higher risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. In fact, the risk of heart disease goes up by 15%.
The study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. It was a large-scale study that looked at more than 175,000 people. They found that more than two hours a day of television viewing increases the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and premature death.
Researchers did point out that it wasn't the actual watching of television that was the problem. Instead, it's the sedentary lifestyle of playing on the Internet or playing computer games that can cause the same effect.
