Mini Pancreas Pouch Could Reverse Type 1 Diabetes

A mini pancreas pouch in the works for humans it has proven to work on animals. The mini pancreas pouch is entering phase two of the clinical development stages where it will be “tested” on humans.

The mini pancreas pouch will be surgical placed inside the body just under the skin near the stomach. The pouch will be filled with islets (islets are cells found in the pancreas, which is what, helps control glucose levels.) The islets come from healthy non-diabetic donors.

The islets in the pouch will start to produce insulin in the body according to the patients glucose levels though out the day. This mini pancreas pouch as the potential if all goes according to plan to reverse type 1 diabetes.

The human testing phase will begin in about a year. The testing and development is being conducted in London by the Sernova Corporation. Once testing is complete and the mini pouch is approved it will be available to diabetics worldwide.
