A study shows that a fatty acid in dairy can lower the risk of type 2 diabetes:
"Type 2 diabetes risk may be lowered by a natural substance in dairy fat, found scientists led by Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian, associate professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH).
Mozaffarian and colleagues reported in the Dec. 20 issue of Annals of Internal Medicine that trans-palmitoleic acid, a fatty acid found in milk, cheese, yogurt, and butter, is linked to lower risk of type 2 diabetes and related metabolic abnormalities. "
