Could Your Next Prescription Be For Headphones?

The next time you pay a visit to your doctor, you may walk out with an order for some new earbuds.

TrainerMD®, creators of a HIPAA compliant software collaboration platform for medical professionals and their patients, has partnered with technology producer Jabra© to produce the first ever in-ear fitness monitor. The partnership is part of TrainerMD's 360 Health program.

Music and Fitness Monitoring

Patients enrolled in the program will receive a pair of Jabra's Sport Plus Wireless Headphones, which monitor VO2 max levels (in other words, how efficiently one's body uses oxygen during exercise) and heart rate. The headphones also save your workout history, update your distance and pace using GPS on your phone, and plays all those tunes that keep you motivated throughout your workout.

As a patient exercises, the headphones will keep track of this vital data, which their doctor can monitor in real time. This will allow the medical professionals to more accurately see how their patients are caring for their bodies, and provide more personalized assessments and treatment options.

A Health and Fitness Revolution

The TrainerMD team are confident that their efforts, along with Jabra's innovative technology, will greatly benefit the lives of countless patients struggling to lose weight and manage chronic conditions such as diabetes. If you ask Scott Lutch, MD, FACC, CMO, CSCS, NSCA, and chief medical officer at TrainerMD, he'll call this new initiative a game changer.

"Not only can patients now educate themselves,” he said in a recent interview, “but they're also empowered to take control of their health -- and physicians, trainers and nurses are partners in all of that. With the added support of the Jabra Sport Pulse wireless earbuds, meeting individual health objectives is now as easy as listening to music or making a phone call."
