Artificial Pancreas in Early Human Clinical Trials

JDRF has announced step has been made in the development of the artificial pancreas. The artificial pancreas is a system that will delivery insulin at a more rapid rate than medication and injections currently do now.

The artificial pancreas is designed to closely imitate the human pancreas, which will be able to sense a diabetic’s blood sugar and release insulin based on the blood sugar level.

In the human clinical studies, they have found that the insulin is released and the blood sugar is stabilized much quicker than with any other know method of delivering insulin to the body.

The artificial pancreas has not only helped the diabetics in the clinical studies to better manage their diabetes but it has also been able to prevent life threatening low- blood sugar emergencies.

The study has been in the works for nearly four years now and hopefully within the next few years the artificial pancreas will be available to diabetics all over the world.
