Relieving Neuropathy Discomfort With Essential Oils

Many individuals with peripheral neuropathy report that essential oils provide relief from the symptoms of tingling, pain, numbness, and skin sensitivity.

Essential oils are liquids distilled from the stems, leaves, flower, bark, berries, and roots of plants. Their chemical composition and aroma provide a variety of therapeutic effects. The oils can be applied to neuropathy affected areas as a massage oil, in hot or cold compresses, or put in bath water and foot soaks.

These oils can be used individually, and many people report that peppermint oil is effective for neuropathy pain. However, combining oils is a powerful way address the several discomforts neuropathy can bring. There are pre-made blends of oils for neuropathy available, though it can be fun and rewarding to make your own.

Neuropthy Massage Oil

You might, for instance, create this neuropathy relieving massage oil for yourself, or someone you care about:

  • 3 drops Cypress essential oil. Spicy scented Cypress promotes circulation, helping blood reach the extremities to reduce tingling and numbness. It also supports liver function.
  • 3 drops Lavender. Calming lavender is a natural pain reliever, and an anti-inflammatory.
  • 3 drops Marjoram. Woodsy marjoram has a warming, soothing effect that relaxes tense muscles and nerves. It also helps relieve muscle cramps and aches.
  • 6 drops Wild Orange. Energizing wild orange stimulates circulation, helping to diminish numbness and tingling with regular use.
  • 4 drops Helichrysum. This powerful oil helps calm nerves, is an anti-inflammatory, and aids pain relief.

Add the drops of essential oil to 2 tablespoons of Fractionated Coconut Oil* and store the mixture in a dark glass bottle. Gently massage into the body areas affected by neuropathy, and into the bottoms of the feet.

Wise Use

It is always a good idea to test any new topical product on a small patch of skin before using it liberally, and be sure to okay essential oil use for neuropathy with your doctor.

When purchasing oils, go with reputable companies that produce 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oils. Responsible manufacturers are knowledgeable and transparent about their essential oil distilling process, and provide informative educational materials to their customers.
