5 Male Celebrities That Have Diabetes

While type 2 diabetes can be associated with people who are overweight or consume an unhealthy diet, everyone from world-famous actors to game show hosts have be diagnosed with the disease.

These five male celebrities were surprised after initially being diagnosed, but all have made healthy lifestyle changes to live fruitful and fulfilling lives.

1. Tom Hanks

The beloved actor who has given the world legendary characters like Forest Gump first announced he had type 2 diabetes in 2013. Hanks had been suffering from elevated blood sugar levels for years before his diagnosis. Yo-yo dieting may have contributed to his diagnosis after Hanks packed on 30 pounds for the movie A League of Their Own and lost 50 pounds for his role in Cast Away.

2. Larry King

When the world-famous CNN anchor ended his reign at the helm of Larry King Live in 2010, he had already been on diabetes medication for 15 years. King also had a history of heart disease - suffering a heart attack in 1987 - so the former host quit smoking, shed weight and began eating a much healthier diet to help control his condition.

3. Randy Jackson

After dealing with what he thought were flu-like symptoms, doctors discovered that his blood sugar was over 500. Normal blood sugar is between 80 and 120. Now thanks to a healthy diet, exercise and losing 100 pounds after gastric bypass surgery, Jackson has been able to keep his type 2 diabetes in check.
