Avandia Side Effect Lawyer: Diabetes Drug Damages Liver

Avandia, a compound of rosiglitazone maleate, is an oral antidiabetic agent. Avandia pills increase insulin sensitivity for patients with type 2 diabetes, or non-insulin-dependent diabetes. Avandia also improves glycemic control as it reduces the circulation of insulin levels. If diet, exercise, and a single drug are not enough to control blood sugar levels, Avandia can be used in conjunction with another drug.

Avandia is not to be used for type 1 diabetes (juvenile onset diabetes) or diabetic ketoacidosis. It is questionable whether people with heart failure, fluid retention, or active liver disease should take Avandia at all. Since Avandia became available there have been reports of the development of hepatitis (the inflammation of the liver) due to elevated liver enzymes. Patients taking Avandia should have their liver enzymes monitored regularly.

Additionally, Avandia is in the same class of drugs as Rezulin, a very dangerous drug that has been associated with devastating liver injury including liver failure that can only be cured with transplant. Without immediate transplant, many Rezulin liver failures have resulted in death. Because of this close association with a dangerous drug, users of Avandia should be in close contact with a doctor if they notice any symptoms of liver problems such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, fatigue, dark urine, or jaundice. Avandia is also very dangerous for pregnant women and their unborn children.

It is also advised, should you suffer adversely from the use of Avandia, to consult a lawyer. The recent proliferation of dangerous drugs into the marketplace is a disturbing trend, and should a drug threaten your health you should be repaid for damages and the drug should be taken off the market.

Inhalable insulin now available

With millions of our population living with Diabetes, a recent treatment is being praised by researchers. It’s called Exubera, the first insulin that doesn’t need injecting.

Right now approximately 4 million diabetics take insulin. In the views of the FDA, millions more should inject it but are scared of the hyperdermic needles that are part of the process.

Exubera is approved, (but not for children), for Type one and Type two Diabetes.

Doctors say diabetes sufferers must use two or three puffs in advance of every meal to avoid the awful issues that are related to Diabetes.

Exubera is a short-acting insulin that can be taken by both patients with type 1 diabetes and suferrers from type-two diabetes mellitus, but long-acting insulin must still be taken.

According to Pfizer, The new inhaler isn’t recommended if you are currently a smoker, start smoking during the treatment or have given up smoking less than 6 months ago.

The cost compares well with other diabetes medications, it is $3 to $5 a day wholesale cost.

Pomegranate Juice and Diabetes

Pomegranate juice drink Reduces the risks in diabetes

Fresh pomegranate juice may be helpful for people with diabetes to decrease their risk of coronary disease.

An interesting new study shows that diabetes sufferers who drank pomegranate juice for a duration of three months had a reduced chance of atherosclerosis (or hardening of the arteries). Also, the pomegranate juice appeared to slow up the absorption of unhealthy ldl cholesterol by the suferrer’s immune cellls.

Folk with diabetes have increasing probability of atherosclerosis, which contributes to heart disease, strokes and other cardiovascular difficulties.

These studies illustrate that the antioxidants in pomegranite juice might be extremely effective in decreasing the risk of coronary complications associated with diabetes.

“In most juices, sugars are present in free, and harmful, forms,” says medical expert Michael Aviram, of the Technion Faculty of Medicine in Haifa, Israel, in a news release. “In pomegranate juice, however, the sugars are attached to unique antioxidants, which actually make these sugars protective against atherosclerosis.”

Folk with diabetes aren’t able to reaact to sugar normally and are usually advised to monitor their intake of food and beverages high in natural or processed sugars, which includes fruit juices.

In the research, discussed in the journal Atherosclerosis, experts analyzed the effects of drinking a specially poduced strong pomegranite juice that is the equivalent to a normal sized glass of fresh pomegranate juice, each day for 3 months in 10 healthy adults and 10 adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Pomegranate juice drinks did not affect overall levels of cholesterol, however specialists discovered it diminished the uptake of oxidized “bad” LDL cholesterol by immune cells, which is a major contributing factor to atherosclerosis.

Although pomegranate juice contains a similar level of sugars as other fruit juices, Aviram suggests they were pleasantly surprised to find that the sugars in pomegranate juice did not worsen diabetes mellitus indicators, such as blood glucose levels, in the participants suffering with diabetes.

Leptin and Diabetes

Monday, November 27th, 2006

Leptin Could Tackle Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus

The appetite controlling hormone known as Leptin, might help keep the diabetes sufferers body from producing too much insulin, according to a study in mice with type-two diabetes.

Suferrers from type-2 diabetes mellitus commonly build up resistance to the effects of insulin, causing excess amounts to build up in the body.

Commenting in the September issue of the medical journal ‘Peptides’, diabetes specialists from the University of Florida injected a gene into the brains laboratory mice with diabetes, hoping to increase the production of the appetite-controlling hormone leptin in the hypothalamus.

Insulin levels in laboratory mice that were given gene therapy returned to normality, even when they were fed a elevated-fat diet, the medical experts found. Increased-fat diets often help trigger or exacerbate type-two diabetes.

Mice that ate a elevated-fat diet but did not receive gene therapy continued to overproduce insulin and have high glucose levels.

Legal Action over Zyprexa

Zyprexa Diabetes Lawsuits

Zyprexa coma side effects, and others like heart attacks and diabetes, are significant. In February 2004 the American Diabetes Association published a Consensus Statement in its Diabetes Care journal. In that statement, the American Diabetes Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the North American Association for the Study of Obesity, stated that data consistently shows an increased risk for diabetes in patients who are treated with Zyprexa (generic ‘ olanzapine). Zyprexa is also associated with an increase risk of coma. The findings were based on input from drug companies, consultations with numerous experts, and reviewing medical literature.

What is Zyprexa’

* Zyprexa is an atypical antipsychotic medication that changes the chemical actions in your brain.
* Zyprexa is used to treat psychotic symptoms including hallucinations, delusions, and confusion.
* Zyprexa may also be used for purposes other than those listed in the medication guide.

Unfortunately, not only are schizophrenia patients being given Zyprexa; children and adolescents displaying only minor conditions are also being prescribed Zyprexa. According to many Zyprexa critics, the risks for suffering potentially deadly and serious conditions are far greater than the benefits that Zyprexa can provide for minor conditions.

Antipsychotic drugs like Zyprexa have not been adequately tested for safety in children so before prescribing, understanding the full extent of Zyprexa side effects is essential.

Have you or a loved one suffered from any of these debilitating Zyprexa side effects, such as a Zyprexa coma or heart attack’

* Diabetes
* Pancreatitis
* Hyperglycemia
* Ketoacidosis
* Extreme weight gain
* Diabetic induced heart attack
* Diabetec coma
* Zyprexa coma
* Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS)
