Medical ID Bracelets for Diabetics

recycled aluminum medical id

People with diabetes should wear a medical ID bracelet so that if they suffer a medical emergency, regardless of where they are or who they are with, emergency personnel can take appropriate measures. Diabetics are especially prone to emergencies such as a diabetic coma and an ID bracelet can greatly enhance their chances of surviving an emergency - if an unconscious patient can be immediately identified as diabetic by a medical ID then doctors will know to look for diabetes-related causes.

A medical ID can also help doctors, EMT's and even police to react appropriately to critical situations and properly interpret other types of events. Take the example of someone suffering a hypoglycemic attack who is pulled over for driving erratically: a medical ID will not only prevent him/her from being arrested, it will enable a police officer to call an ambulance ASAP.

Medical IDs can be crucial in non-diabetic emergencies as well as they enable caregivers to give appropriate treatment and avoid the administration of potentially harmful treatment.

Today's Medical IDs Look Great

Though they used to be something of an unattractive stigma, Medical ID bracelets are no longer clinical and boring. A lot of stylish options are available: gold, silver, beaded, leather and even silicone bracelets can all be engraved with the proper medical information.

What information should go on the Bracelet?

Here are some suggestions for what to put on a Medical ID bracelet. Please confirm with your doctor before ordering:

  • Name
  • Type of diabetes
  • For children: Name of parent or guardian & contact phone number
  • For adults: Emergency contact phone number & alternate phone number
  • Medications taken regularly
  • Name and phone number of physician
