Life is good!
There’s a decal sitting on my desk. It has the illustration of a dog with a long fork in its mouth and a marshmallow at the end, over a fire. The text says, Life is good” and that has been my mantra for the past few years. I see this decal every day and it’s a great reminder of what I believe.
While out and about in my daily routine, I repeat this slogan at every opportunity. For example, when people ask, “How are you” there are only a few socially acceptable replies. Among them are “ok” or “fine”. My reply of “life is good” brings a smile to their faces and is also acceptable. My smile and positive attitude are infections as I spread joy.
There are so many things that can depress me if I give them control. For example, I am regularly dismayed that speeding cars pass me while I’m walking and I want to give them all speeding tickets. It’s easy for me to get riled up…and then I remember “life is good”.
I hold my life as a jewel or a fragile butterfly. I know from years of living with diabetes that there are moments when I’m challenged or scared. The path of least resistance is to embrace the negative; however, this never helps. No matter how bad the situation or the weather or, or, or I still believe life is good.
When things are going really well and I have an almost euphoric feeling, life is great. I know that it’s easy to be in touch with joy when things are going well. On the other hand, I also know that my work is to connect with joy when things are not going well. For me, the visual image of the dog roasting a marshmallow reminds me about joy, peace and love.
Years ago I donated money to a radio station in Florida that broadcast only good news. My vision was of people listing to this station and wallowing in joy. Unfortunately, the station closed and we lost this positive motivation.
My suggestion is to take the time to connect with your joy (by the way, it’s always there) and when you do, you’ll realize that indeed, Life is Good!
